The Emerald Brigade had a great night at their first WBA competition of the year at James Logan High School in Union City. The Brigade's show "That's All Folks" continues to win awards with a first place in AAAA division scoring an 84.00 as well as bringing home awards for General Effects, Music, and Percussion. Great job Brigade! Now on to WBA Finals in Clovis on Nov 22-24.
It was a huge night for the Emerald Brigade at Foothill last weekend. The competition level was a couple notches higher at this show with the likes of Folsom, Amador Valley, Mountain View, Lynbrook, and Rodriguez among others. The Emerald Brigade performed an excellent show with some very cool new props, and wowed the crowd and the judges. Their sharp performance earned the Brigade many awards including second place in percussion, third place in color guard, first place in brass, third place (tie) in woodwinds, General Effects Sweepstakes (in a tie), Visual Sweepstakes, and were named the Field Show Sweepstakes Champion! See the Foothill competition page for more details including scores. Congratulations to all on a great night!
The Del Oro show has come and gone and it was another great night for the Emerald Brigade! The Brigade brought home awards for 1st place in AAAAA division including high woodwind and percussion awards, and also swept the sweepstakes awards bringing home awards for music, general effects, visual effects, and winning the grand sweepstakes award with a score of 92.6. Congratulations to all for all the hard work and great effort! Detailed results are available on the Del Oro competition page.
Congratulations to the Emerald Brigade and Color Guard for their great showing at the first field show of the year at Oakmont. Granite Bay really pulled the show together in recent weeks and the outcome was a very strong outing at Oakmont. Granite Bay finished first in Percussion and Color Guard and took first in the Gold Division of the show. The Brigade also took home the Music, Marching, General and Grand Sweepstakes awards for the entire show as well. If you missed the first field show, please come out to Del Oro High School or another one of the shows and see this year's show. It really is good and worth seeing! Great job Emerald Brigade!

An open letter to Ms.
K., Marching Band & Color Guard Staff, Students and Parents:
On behalf of the Band
and Color Guard parents, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Ms. K.,
Paul, Chris, Vince, and the whole marching band and color guard staff for a
wonderful field show and once again, another fantastic marching season! We
recognize that it requires an incredible amount of time, energy and effort on
the part of you and your staff to pull this off. We wish that there was more we
could do to recognize your efforts. Please know that they have not gone
unnoticed nor taken for granted. I know for a fact that many students have been
inspired by your dedication and are seriously considering music-related
endeavors as future career choices.
I also wanted to thank
all of the students who have also put forth an outstanding effort. As I watch
the field show once again on video, it is hard to believe that this performance
was done by students, many of whom had not ever marched nor spun a rifle prior
to August! This truly is an amazing feat and something you should carry forth
with pride. I would also like to especially recognize the Color Guard. You made
the performance visually appealing and exciting to watch.
Finally, a special
shout-out to all the parents who have worked hard volunteering throughout the
season to make this program a success. Although there are too many names to
mention here, I did want to especially thank Kathy Brunelli and the Emerald
Brigade Sewing Team for producing beautiful Guard flags. I understand that
effort included some very long hours and went right down to the wire. I also
wanted to thank Kerry Fitzpatrick, Chris Angelo, Pam and Dave Reynolds and the
rest of the food committee for producing great meals on the road. You sure know
how to have fun! I would also like to thank Michael Downs for keeping us jazzed
up with coffee, and Keith Burson for his tireless efforts as trailer boss /
volunteer coordinator and his unique skill sets including fire safety and
electrical consultant. Likewise, I'd like to thank Darryl Moffat for being pit
boss and the rest of the pit crew. The EBSO board also deserves
recognition for providing the means to organize and fund this program. I
would also like to thank Keith Deger for organizing the car wash and helping
out for just about everything. Linda Downs deserves recognition for organizing
the chaperones and offering up her artistic talents. Finally, I'd like to thank
Chi for coming up with the idea for the waffle bar and Jackie Swain and David
Furmidge for making the waffle bar fun and competitive. This certainly was a
big hit with the students.
To any of the sophomore
and freshman parents that have not yet participated in any of these activities,
my advise to you is to jump in and try it. You will meet new friends and have a
good time. You will also be able to add something to the mix and creative input
is always welcome. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events
including the Winter Concert, Winter Guard and Drumline and Guard Pancake &
Thanks again for all
your support of The Emerald Brigade & Color Guard Program.
